Region Formation

In the summer of 1990, a group of chapter presidents and chapter board members gathered in Long Beach, California, for our region's first Leadership Conference facilitated by Region Vice President, Bill Testerman. Bill reported in the 1991 ARMA Annual report, "The gathering of those leaders was a time for sharing experiences and knowledge, team building, program development and consensus. At the conclusion of the conference we left a better informed, more highly motivated group, with clearer objectives for our chapters and a greater sense of our relationship with the Association." Sounds very much like today. Prior to FY99/00, ARMA's regions were led by Region Vice Presidents who also served on the Board of Directors wearing two hats of responsibility. And prior to the late 1990's ARMA's Regions were known by number designations. Before becoming the Pacific Region we were known as Region VI. The Association realized that regions and local chapters needed more focused services and resources, and the association needed a Board of Directors who could give full attention to association leadership. Thus the Region Leadership Team program was launched. The Pacific Region was one of two ARMA regions to pilot the new program, and Helen Streck led the first Pacific Region Leadership Team. The new structure proved to be beneficial, and Region Teams were made up of a Manager and a small group of Coordinators. Becoming more sophisticated, Regions began adding treasurers and webmasters to their teams.

The Pacific Region has a long history of excellent leadership conferences well known throughout the Association. Each year, attendees experience networking, innovation, improved content, and valuable resources for successful chapter operations and programs. Below is a summary of nearly twenty years of Pacific Region Leadership Conferences and Region Leaders.
