ARMA International Unveils Competencies

Oct. 7 marks the unveiling of the long-awaited ARMA International RIM Core Competencies. The release of this publication was announced at a special session during the ARMA International 52nd Annual Conference & Expo in Baltimore.

The publication details the core competencies records and information management professionals need to be a success at the various stages in their career. These competencies will enable individuals to identify gaps in their current skills and knowledge so they know where they need more development. They also will be useful to managers and human resources professionals in defining descriptions for existing and new records and information management-related positions. A download of the publication is available on the ARMA International website (www.arma.org). A printed version will be available for purchase in the ARMA International Bookstore (www.arma.org/bookstore) by Nov. 15.

Baltimore Conference News

ARMA International 52nd Annual Conference & Expo in Baltimore was an outstanding conference this year. The vendor expo was one of the largest ever with wide well lit aisles. The AIEF (ARMA International Educational Foundation) raised just under $11,000 with its' second silent auction. The educational sessions were top rate again and the leadership training day was well attended by chapter leaders from almost 100 chapters.

The Pacific Region had a great turn out again this year and HQ provide each region with a hospitality suite after the leadership training, so region attendees could stop by and network with others from the region.

I'm very proud to announce that we had two award winners from the region at the annual award banquet.

The Hawaii Chapter received an Honorable Mention for their submission of Chapter of the Year for a medium chapter and the Pacific Region Website received the Region Website Award. Well done and congratulations to the Hawaii Chapter and our webmaster, Nolene Sherman. (See all the winners here).

Two exciting grants are now available to Chapters

You can now apply for two grant programs designed to assist your Chapter in educational programming and officer leadership development. The two grant programs are the result of the work of ARMA's Leadership Development and Training Committee. The new grant programs are as follows:

The ARMA Region Leadership Training Grant: This program will provide chapters with funding to assist them in sending chapter leaders to their region leadership training and allows for two grants of $400.00 (US Dollars) each, per fiscal year, for each of the 10 (ten) ARMA regions.

The ARMA Chapter Speaker Grant: This program will provide chapters with funding to assist them in acquiring high quality speakers for their educational offerings and allows for individual grants of $500.00 per Chapter for acquisition of speaker(s) for an individual educational program. There will be a maximum of 25 speaker grants per fiscal year.

Each grant program will require an application be submitted to the respective Region Manager, who then review and submit to ARMA International's Director of Member Services, who will then make the final decisions on the distribution of the respective grant funds.

We encourage your Chapter to apply for these funds to assist in your programming and leadership development. Both of these grant forms will be available on the Leadership Resource area of our website in the near future.
